A New Version of Success

Christ came to "his own" knowing He was going to be rejected. It isn't the first time we see people obeying God through commissions that were doomed from the beginning.

In Christ's example we see a definition of success that is very different from our own. How does God define success for His followers?

Reversing Spiritual Entropy

Following Mary's example of worship, Christ teaches on the paradox of giving life through His death...an example that still holds true today.

For a seed to produce fruit, the seed has to die. The eternal life possessed by someone who follows Christ began with the death of Christ. Equally, the beginning of our conformation to the image of Christ, begins with the death of our will

Shepherds and Sheep: Part 3

Jesus is confronted by the religious leaders about His identity as He stands on Solomon's Porch:

He responds by claiming equality with God the Father,
by pointing to the prophetic nature of His good works,
and by teaching on eternal security

Shepherds and Sheep: Part 1

Jesus uses vocations within His culture to teach about Himself and His message:

At end of each day, after leading his flock to graze, a shepherd would bring his sheep home and place them in a community pen. This pen, normally having a 10-12 foot high wall and one door, was guarded by a porter throughout the night, keeping watch against thieves and wild animals. In the morning, the shepherd/owner would come back, identify himself, and then identify his sheep by calling to them. The sheep would confirm their owner by responding to his voice...

What Shapes My Identity?

A father in Jewish society determined the identity, status, and inheritance of his children. In American society our identity and status is often determined by our possessions, and the amount of them.

The Bible teaches that God provides His followers with an identity, status, and inheritance. God also has a great deal to say about how we should view our possessions, and how our perspective will change how we understand the world around us.

Our Father

One of the strongest words in our dictionary is father. For better or worse, the word seems to always invoke an emotional response. In Luke 15 Jesus tells three stories illustrating the heart of God toward those apart from Him. The third and final exhibits the heart of a father for a son whose life decisions seperate him from his father. In the story we see the heart of our heavenly Father, whose optimism, patience, grace, and forgiveness paint a self portrait of the God whose favorite title for Himself is Father.
